ThoughtSpot approached my production company Guerilla Wanderers Films to create and produce a unique and engaging short film to engage users on the emotional response their clients feel in using their product. As Guerilla Wanderers handled the creative, I had the pleasure of concepting, writing, producing and directing the spot.
We collaborated on a piece that would help tell their story in a fun and comedic way. I pitched a lot of ideas and concepts, then we settled on the right pairing of concept with what they wanted to convey with their brand. I went to work writing a script for a 3-minute short, based on my concept, creating a hybrid of an Orwellian and Seussian world where all the workers are named Tom, and in which they all look the same. We find our hero Tom 222 with no identity or real authenticity, with a real need to have his own name and identity. Through discovering the product and taking a leap of faith to use the ThoughtSpot product, he rebels against conventional thought and risks his livelihood to do so.
The approach came in having a very elaborate planning process, where every shot was storyboarded and animatic was created to keep everyone in sync. On set our Digital Wanderers VFX team utilized motion control and VFX techniques to create the special world that the Toms live in and to allow one actor to play the many Toms.
What emerged was an award winning commercial short film that I am very proud of and I’d like to share with everyone.
